Is it possible to integrate barcode reader with the institution portal? How does the barcode reader work with the portal?
Yes, It is possible to integrate barcode reader with the portal. As per the current code barcode Integration is hard-coded in the library module within the portal, so there is no further setup you need to do. This integration allows the user to add barcode to books and also issue/renew books with the barcode reader. Book addition now has two modes: One to add multiple books without adding the barcode and the other to add one book at a time with the barcode also. On scanning the book with the barcode reader the application will enter the barcode into the field and the required operation like addition of books, search etc can be done.
Here’s how you can add a new book to your institution portal
Go to the Manage Books page (Module access icon > Academics > Library > Manage Books) in the portal.
In the top right, click the Add books button to open the Add book page.
Select By barcode as the book addition mode.
Position the cursor in the Barcode field.
Scan the barcode on the book using the barcode reader. The book’s barcode number is automatically filled in the Barcode field. Make sure the barcode reader is plugged into your computer.
Continue entering other required information (book number, title, author, etc.) and save it.
Similarly we can go for issuing search as well as returning books in library
- Go to the Manage Books page (Module access icon > Academics > Library > Issue books) in the portal.
- Scan the barcode on the book using the barcode reader. The book’s barcode number is automatically filled in the Barcode field. Make sure the barcode reader is plugged into your computer.
- Click on search option to perform Issuing of the book.
- Go to the Manage Books page (Module access icon > Academics > Library > Search book) in the portal.
- Select Search by mode as Barcode.
- Scan the barcode on the book using the barcode reader. The book’s barcode number is automatically filled in the Barcode field. Make sure the barcode reader is plugged into your computer.
